Art of Living concert claims entry into Guinness Book of World Records

With a record 2,500 warkaris and 1,356 traditional drummers from the Dhangar community participating in ‘Abhangnad’, a concert organised by the Art of Living Foundation (AOL) at the Shivaji University ground here, the organisation has claimed that the event is an official entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The event was organised in a bid to attract youths towards
folk traditions.

AOL founder and spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar’s presence as the chief guest of the concert attracted thousands of people to the venue.Ravishankar said abhang, devotional songs composed by sants, is an immortal part of Maharashtra’s culture. Similarly, the Dhangar community has also preserved its traditional art of playing drums.“We had arranged classical music concerts in Pune, Nagpur and other parts of the country as we wish to give our culture a high status in the world,” he said. Revelling in infinity

Every cell in our body has the capacity to hold infinity. We must tap the full potential that nature has bestowed on us, the potential to hold infinity in every cell of the body. For that, we must practice meditation regularly.

Meditation is like a seed. The better a seed is cultivated, the more it flourishes. Our physiology undergoes a change and every cell in the body is filled with prana (life force). And as the level of prana in the body rises, we bubble with joy.

The culturing of meditation into our system is normal. Some people call it the higher state of consciousness; I call it the normal state of consciousness since we are endowed with the ability to live in that state.Read More

Call to ensure food safety

Corporate houses should ensure that safe food reaches the people through initiatives in organic farming, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living movement, said here on Saturday.

A press note here said he was speaking at a seminar on “Corporate social responsibility in promoting organic farming and safe food,” organised by Art of Living, in association with the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and the State Horticulture Mission.

He said corporate social responsibility was nothing but giving people buying power. Farmers should depend on mixed cropping and an integrated farming system as expounded by the saints of yore. L. Radhakrishnan, Chairman of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, moderated the discussions. P. Pushpangadan, scientist, spoke.

150 Kathakali artistes came together to create Guinness World Records.

In a first of its kind attempt, a total of 150 Kathakali artistes came together for a performance lasting 45 minutes here Saturday.
The entire performance was videographed by representatives from the Guinness World Records.
Eminent Kathakali artiste Ettumanur Kannan and his team of dancers gave life to the subtle 'asanas' of the Art of Living (AOL) meditation through well-defined classic 'mudras' (gestures) in the presence of AOL founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
The objective of this performance was to invoke the classical dance-drama to interpret the powers of meditation to heal the mind.
Titled Natyavismayam, the artistes were in the costumes of all the five 'veshas' (make-up) of Kathakali -- pachcha, kaththi, thaadi, kari and minukku.
"We are trying to express the subtle nuances of dhyana (meditation) through existing mudras of Kathakali. It is an attempt to interpret dhyana as AOL is also basically a form of dhyana," team leader Kannan said.
After the programme, the spiritual leader honoured eminent Kathakali artistes Padmashri Madavoor Vasudevan Nair, Kalamandalam Gangadharan, Kalamandalam Raman Nampoothiri and Kalamandalam Narayanan Nair.
"This performance is part of the efforts of the Art of Living Foundation, which has soothed the minds of millions of people across the globe through meditation, to popularize various classical art forms in Indian and abroad," said Swamy Sadyojatha, the chief coordinator of the spiritual leader's visit to Kerala.
"Through dhyana, the mind can be purified and gets peace. A mind with evil quality can be ultimately transformed into one with virtue with the help of dhyana. That is the message of Natyavismayam," added Kannan.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is in the state for the next five days as part of the Art of Living Foundation's 30th year celebrations, which will culminate in a grand ceremony in Berlin, Germany in July.

Guruji asks Indians to join hands to root out Corruption

Bangalore: Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Sunday urged Indians to join hands "to root out corruption".

"Fight corruption with truth and non-violent means. We have to come together to root out corruption from India," he told a large gathering of youths here.

Speaking at his Art of Living International Center for the Yuva Jagruti Sammelan, he said that youths had a key role to play in combating corruption.

"We need to stand strong against corruption irrespective of any party or person," Ravi Shankar added.

Youths from villages around Bangalore and Ramanagaram had gathered for the event to debate ways to tackle corruption at the grassroots.

The participants discussed a number of strategies, including the use of RTI act and proactively following up on the status of projects and schemes with local officials and elected representatives.

The organizers also released a sticker: "I do not take a bribe". The stickers will be distributed in government offices to discourage officials at village and taluk levels from taking bribes.

Guruji urges people to lead healthy lives in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 6: Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar shared his vision of a healthy life and a stable mind at a healthcare conference held at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on Saturday.

Educating people on health and mind, Ravi Shankar said the word 'health' in Sanskrit means 'an enlightened being'.

"The word health in Sanskrit means enlighten being. 'Swasti' means one who established in self. One who is in oneself is called one who is healthy and what are the signs of being in oneself like what I see here, enthusiasm," he said.

Further talking about the characteristics of health, Ravi Shankar said that enthusiasm and total attention are the two characters of good health.

"The mindfulness is the second character of health, one is enthusiasm. When you are so enthusiastic that's it nothing can shake you. The second is total attention, mindfulness in anything that you are trying," he said, and added that to be alert and relaxed is enlightenment. News Courtesy Daily India.com

News from Egypt

Many things changed in my beautiful country since I last wrote u about the blissful events we had. On JAN 25th normal protests started requesting a political change, dramatically transformed into the sad events on the 28th where around 300 people (from both police and protesters) got killed and around 1500 injured. Not to mention all the burning and robbing events that started from that day onwards. Curfew between 3pm and 8am was effective, however this whole period was filled with terrifying attacks of street thugs and robberies operated by criminals who stole police cars and ambulances to cover their work, resulting the loss of people's trust in any one. Cell phones and internet services were suspended from the 28th, the first was partially resumed after 35 hours while the second is partially resumed after 6 days. I can't deny I was so terrified the first two days, just like any other Egyptian who hears continuous machine guns firing all night long, my only protection was in listening to Qoran or chanting Guru Om and Om namo narayana.

My friends and teacher's checking on me several times helped in cheering me up a bit (thanks teacher Sanjiv Sarin)

On the 30th after my Kriya and meditation I was inspired to take the initiative to ask AOL members to meditate for peace and protection at the same time at sunset, so I called some people and we did it. The positive outcome encouraged me on the 31st to take the initiative a step further and called almost all AOL Egypt family members, beside the AOL international family (thanks to the help of my wonderful teachers Sangeeta Jani, Mawahib, Kamal and Ajay Khimji in conveying my message internationally) I reached out to anyone I could be in contact with in all the cities of Egypt, to the extent that I even asked some of the spiritual, peaceful young protesters in Tahrir square through some common friends to join the meditation. At 4 pm GMT not less than 1200 people meditated and prayed at the same time for peace and protection of Egypt each from his\her place. I felt the energy was so powerful yet soothing.

Yesterday I was asked to go to the protesting youth who felt the positive energy on the 31st to guide them in a meditation upon the request of some of them, but unfortunately the situation deteriorated and it wasn't safe enough, however when I find the place is more secure I will surely go because our prayer made a difference, it made us feel safer. Yet the fear, pain, sorrow and anger are still powerfully filling the air in Egypt. So our concern now is that we need everybody to put their attention with positive energy for the peace and protection of Egypt and Egyptians.
So AOL Egypt's new initiative is: Everyday, at 4pm GMT send Egypt blessings for peace and protection, if u can meditate with us at the same time (4pm GMT), it would be great and I am sure that together we can make a difference.
Last thing I'd love to thank all the AOL family members in Egypt and abroad who kept on calling or sending emails to check on me in this situation.
I belong to you all
Thanks, JGD
