Ravi Shankar praises media for exposing corruption

Sambalpur, Dec 15 (PTI) Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar today appreciated media''s role in exposing corruption at high places and asked it to strive for eradicating corrupt practices.


No country can progress with rampant corruption, the spiritual guru said and congratulated the media for exposing alleged corruption during the recent Commonwealth Games.


"The administration should be clean and people should know what is going on in the society in particular and in the country in general", Ravi Shankar told reporters here.


To a question on growing naxalism in various states including Orissa, Ravi Shankar said proper education should be provided to young people to refrain from such destructive activities.


Proper education alongwith steady development in backward areas will bring them to the mainstream, he said.

Protect Ayurveda and it will protect you, says Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

The Ayurveda Congress the Chief Minister of Karnataka announced the setting up of the Karnataka Ayurveda University, All India Institute of Ayush at the cost of Rs10 crore with support from the Centre.

The chief guest of the occasion, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of Art of Living Foundation, said that ayurveda which was once a part of every household had now become a dying science. A 3,000-year old science must not be brushed aside, he said. “If we protect Ayurveda, Ayurveda will protect us,” said Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

He requested the European delegates not to pass laws which would affect the flow of Ayurveda to the continent. “Thirty percent of Europeans suffer from depression and it would rise to 50% in the coming days. They should not be deprived of Ayurveda,” he said Read More

Politicians need ayur care, says Sri Sri

BANGALORE: Scams that plague the government, department work that is to be completed, party politics to be taken care of - it's not the techies, but politicians of our country who are probably most stressed, reeling under pressure almost everyday of their career. And Ayurveda is one of the best de-stressers for them, says Art of Living founder, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. 


Speaking to STOI, Sri Sri said he would advise yoga not just for the CM for all ministers. "I would advice every politician to follow Ayurveda. They should at least take Naadi Pariksha once a month and take Panchakarma treatment once a year to detoxify themselves. Most of the ministers are Pitta-Vata prakriti - they get upset fast. Many bureaucrats are Kapha prakriti which makes them procrastinate. I would advice them to follow the diet according to their prakriti," he said.  Read more:

Karnataka State can look forward to Ayurveda university.

BANGALORE: To strengthen the ayurvedic system of medicine, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa 

said an ayurveda university will be set up in Karnataka soon with the Centre's support. Besides, 

an all-India institute of ayush will be established at the cost of Rs 10 crore. 

"Other innovative methods have been planned to develop infrastructure, but I can't elaborate 

because of the poll code of conduct," the CM said. 

Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said Indian government officials have to educate 

European lawmakers not to prevent free flow of ayurveda. At least 30% suffer from depression in 

that continent, and it will rise to 50% in the coming days. "There is a need to develop organic and 

quality herbs. A comprehensive plan should include environmentalists to develop organic and 

natural farming methodology. Ayurvedic science should spread to all countries in the world," Sri Sri said.

Civil society demands an effective Lokpal

The former IPS officer and social activist Kiran Bedi has joined hands with social activists Arvind Kejriwal, Anna Hazare and Sunita Godara and religious leaders Swami Agnivesh, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Yoga Guru Ramdev and the Arch Bishop of Delhi to demand setting up of an effective anti-corruption agency that aims to bring to book those guilty of siphoning off public money.The voice against corruption is increasingly becoming pro-active. Recently, the  group of activists, backed by people from all cross-sections of the Indian society, went beyond just the rhetoric and drafted a Lokpal Bill to plug loopholes in the Indian anti-corruption system. They then forwarded the Bill to the Prime Minister with a request to make it a law. 


Speaking on the occasion Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said it was rare that the religious leaders commented on government policies. But when the situation became dire, they cannot remain mute spectators and had to intervene. “Unless we have effective systems to book and punish the corrupt speedily, we will never be able to tackle corruption. It is difficult for the Prime Minister to take action against his own ministers when he is heading a coalition government. Therefore, he should immediately set up independent systems on the lines of election commission.”  Read more

Guruji asks NGOS to join effort against corruption

''We are torn between slum India and scam India. We need to keep our integrity and walk the talk,' he said addressing representatives of over 1,000 NGOs at a meeting organised by AoL and Confederation of NGOs for Rural India (CNRI) at his complex on the outskirts of Bangalore.


'NGOs are the bridging gap between the governments and the people and they have a pivotal role to play in rooting out corruption from society,' he said. Read more
